WV Hive, WVU Tech Launch Lab find purposes for levels of competition | Information

West Virginia University and the National Science Foundation recently announced the launch of WV Hive and WVU Tech Launch Lab’s inaugural program for levels of competition.

This new program is designed to provide students and entrepreneurs from throughout the region with a unique opportunity to learn and understand the needs of a business by competing with others in their sector. It also provides guidance to winners and encourages collaboration and innovation in the tech-related fields.

The program is sponsored by both WV Hive and WVU Tech Launch Lab, and it is expected to further WVU’s mission of helping to foster a vibrant entrepreneurial environment. It provides a forum for individuals to develop new business ideas and compete with others in their sector. Individuals will be judged based on their level of innovation and execution.

The program is open to those living within 5 hours of the Morgantown, WV area. The program has three different levels — Introduction, Open, and Challenge. Participants in the Introduction level will be given the opportunity to learn and understand the requirements of a competitive business. The Open level is designed to allow teams to take an idea and develop it further without the pressure of a final presentation. Lastly, the Challenge level is a high-stakes competition in which participants will present their pitches and be evaluated by the judges.

Winners of each level will receive funding from WV Hive and the WVU Tech Launch Lab. Winners will have access to mentoring and support from the organizations associated with the program, including industry experts and entrepreneurs. This program encourages innovation and collaboration, both of which have been identified as key components of successful tech-related start-ups.
