In this study, double entry produced the fewest errors (0.44) and received the highest subjective evaluation of all four data-checking methods. However, the participants in this study had a lot of previous data-entry experience and were entering psychological data, so this result may not be generalizable to other populations. Nevertheless, the authors note that even though double entry was slower than visual checking or solo read aloud, it was significantly faster than partner read aloud and more accurate than both visual checking and solo read aloud, when controlling for previous data-entry experience.

If it finds a good match the bad word is replaced with that. Alternatively the word may be marked as wrong but not replaced with anything. The mark is stored in the internal word list,’spellfile’, and it can be used as a comment line with’spelllang’. Using this method the number of changes and the amount of memory used are minimized.
