  • Virginia Tech ends No. 6 Virginia’s 7-recreation earn streak – Raleigh News & Observer

On Saturday, February 6th, 2021, the No. 6 Virginia Cavaliers’ 7-game win streak came to an abrupt end at the hands of a determined Virginia Tech Hokies team. In a game full of twists and turns, the Hokies emerged victorious, 72-70.

It was a hard-fought contest between two teams full of talent, with both sides trading baskets throughout the game. The Hokies were led by their star guard, Tyrece Radford, who scored a team-high 24 points. Although the Cavaliers had two players with more than 20 points on the night, it was the Hokies’ defensive effort that ultimately won them the game.

Virginia Tech used their stifling defense to hold Virginia to just 40.8% shooting from the field and 25% from beyond the arc. The Hokies also forced the Cavaliers into 14 turnovers and outrebounded them, 34-31. Virginia often had trouble getting good shots off, due in part to Virginia Tech’s effective defense.

The Hokies will now look to build on their impressive win and continue their march up the rankings. With this win, Virginia Tech ended the Cavaliers’ seven-game winning streak and moved to 14-4 on the season. Virginia, on the other hand, will have to regroup in order to get back on track.

Regardless of the outcome, it was an entertaining matchup between two talented and well-coached teams. Virginia Tech showed that they can hang with any team and they will look to continue their strong form going into the conference tournament. The Cavaliers will aim to bounce back and regain their form soon in order to be ready for the postseason.
