Household Representative Joaquin Castro (D-Tex.), the Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, recently underwent surgery to remove gastrointestinal tumors.

The two-time democratic congressman was diagnosed with cancerous tumors in his abdomen and had them immediately removed. He is expected to make a full recovery and is expected to return to office once his recovery is complete.

Castro has been in public office since 2011, when he was elected as a member of the San Antonio City Council. In 2013 he was elected to the House of Representatives and in 2019 was elected as the chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Castro is the younger twin brother of former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Julian Castro. He issued a statement thanking doctors for their quick actions and expressing hope for those going through the same ordeal.

He also indicated he was eager to get back to “the people of Texas’ 20th District and the important work that needs to be done in Congress to restore people’s faith in one another and their government.” He also thanked those who are offering “kind wishes and prayers” during this difficult time.

In the spirit of positivity and support, Castro’s family and Office will not be making any further comments until news of his recovery is known.

In a time of national and international political instability, Castro is nothing short of an inspiration for anyone going through something similar. A true demonstration of personal courage and strength. [ad_1]
